I wrote an essay today because I wanted to, and I don’t love the whole thing by any means, but I really like this paragraph that came out of it:
I think it was one of those things where after he missed the first few because of work, or for whatever reason, coming to any of the others would draw attention to missteps from before. That’s not how kids think, but it might be how guilty adults do. Kids are like dogs – they don’t know how long you are leaving them for, but it always feels like forever. Then you come back and they hit the reset button:
Start over - I’m just happy you’re here - I’ll always love you!
Adults, on the other hand have a ferocious awareness of chronology.
